We tend to wiggle in the mundane and succumb to the ways of the world which veer us away from the path Jesus asks us to tread. To keep the lamp of faith burning we need to continuously oil it through prayers and be consciously in tune with Christ’s teachings. Our hearts and minds are prepared for every opportunity due to our relationship with Jesus. We are nurtured throughout our lives through grace.
The oil needed to keep our lamps burning brightly in our life is the little drops of love, kindness, patience, selflessness etc. Very often we question the events and incidents in our life without ever finding any answers to them. Many times we waver in our faith, at home or at our workplace, we aren’t generous in using kind words. Sometimes unknowingly rudeness too finds its way into our behavior and finally end up not being thoughtful of our loved ones and strangers. Many times circumstances compel us to behave in a manner that we ourselves do not approve of. It is a reality that people are competent in some aspects of their lives but in other areas it varies.
We should be available to serve the Lord always. It could be in the form of helping the person in a public transport, may be a stranger on the road, a neighbor who is in a hurry and those in need of food or money. It is a common experience that whenever any body asks for some money much negativity occupies our thought process, whether the money will be returned or if there is a chance of being duped or cheated. We need to think about what we are given- wealth, knowledge, possessions, time, abilities and lots of opportunities. Jesus taught us to be generous to those in need. It implies that we have to be generous both in praise and judgements too. We routinely fail to do the best of which we are capable. Sometimes God seems to directly intervene in people’s lives to make them realize their value.
