THE SPARK WITHIN

Commenting on the casual approach of the way of working of some of our juniors, my colleague gave a disheartened look. So I consoled him by saying that we do not have a choice as we are under compulsion to teach the students and finish the portion before the deadline. His quick rejoinder was a simple question, ‘Who compels us?’ True we also had a choice to be lethargic at work. It was just that our way of working was a little different from the rest.

The daily orientation of the flower to the sun is a direct result of the differential growth of the stem. A plant growth regulator accumulates on the shaded side of a plant when conditions of unequal light prevail and so the darker side grows faster than the sunlit side. Thus the stem bends towards the sun. Great leaders like Gandhiji, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela and Abraham Lincoln did not have any one to tell them what to do. They were their own tutors and guides not because they had all inborn qualities but they developed them as they lived on.

Brilliant conversational powers, magnetic eloquence, purity and simplicity of character are the hallmarks of great people.
